So yeah back to what is happening in Granada.  Well it has been hot and a little humid but what are you going to do……

So Joe Carter,  Jessica Hutt, and myself have been teaching the advanced ESL class and that went well…… the last week we have not had any students cause of all the schools getting out….. but we have still found stuff to do last week we did an ATL instend……

I would like to share a personal time I had with God recently.  Last week we were told that we needed to stop sleeping on the floor and sleep on our beds, so we did.  I caught a cold or somthing and well I was rather sick.  So the night we did that, I got like no sleep so I was taking naps all day the next day, like at lunch and at ESL when we were waiting for our students.  That night I needed a lot of rest  but ( this is ware God comes in) I was not able to sleep.  I was in a lot of pain but could not sleep and I had notting to do so i asked God what I should do and He said “worship me……. “

Tthe last thing I was thinking of was worshiping him at that time.  But I said  “okay God I will” and so I put some Hillsong on my ipod and worshiped God from 2 in the morning to 7:30.  It was the best time I have ever had with God and I was given a new strangth the next morning……

I love God and all he has done for me and I love all of you…….

God bless you…..

  1. Sounds like a special time with God. I am looking forward to you sharing it with us when you are home.

    Much love,
    Mom

  2. Hey there sweetie! It is so good to know that God is and will be there for us during our times of trials. I am thankful that He has met you.

When we talked over Thanksgiving you sounded a little frail in your spirit. I can well understand that emotion. You have amazed me by the strength and enthusiasm you have exhibited so far, seemingly lacking any sense of homesickness! I have been amazed. But on Friday night you sounded more human! 🙂

Homesickness can really come on strong when you are feeling physically down. I remember a few days you had the same experience up in Washington but you came out of it soon enough. Considering the tough living situation that you are presently in, the newness of the culture and foods and friends, and being so far from home, I am really surprised that it didn’t come sooner. We are amazed, impressed and proud of you, Caleb. You are truly a servant of our Lord, and I am thankful to partner with you in prayer as you touch these people’s lives.

We also look forward to your coming home though, and will see you soon. Take care of your health, dear one, because from good health comes good thoughts and from good thoughts come good experiences. YOU ARE IN NICARAGUA!!! WOW!!!!!! WAY TO GO!

    love mrs gamble

  3. Yo Caleb,

Sounds like you know which well to go to for the good water.

Same’ol Same’ol here. Kate is trying out for another play at Poway High, She want’s to play ‘Lois’, a Jewish girl from the Bronx, in a play called ‘Wonder Of The World’.
I’m still scouring for the right work/job.Please Pray on that one between the important stuff.

One exciting thing is that Harrison, thanks to your family, is going to start at Palomar College in San Marcos for the spring Semester. Hopefully in tandem with Jess if they can work out some scheduling that serves them both.

Thanksgiving was DELICIOUS! Naturally, I made my famous (in my mind) wild rice and pine night dressing. Best batch in years! I froze some for when you are home for Christmas.

Speaking of naturally, I also roasted a Never Frozen, Free Range, Cage Free, No Hormones etc. etc. 14 pound turkey for the feast.Obviously your Mom’s natural, organic, whole foods obsession continues to influence me.
At first, I was a bit trepidacious. After decades of reliance on your basic rock hard frozen Butterball, and as I am rather ancient and set in my ways, I wasn’t quite sure where to start. Unlike the Butterball, IT CAME WITH NO INSTRUCTIONS!
Not only that, there was no little POP UP timer thingy to tell me when it was properly cooked… What to do?
Fortunately, I still have my copy of the greatest cookbook ever sold. The Bible of gastronomy, The tome of Culinary excellence…THE JOY OF COOKING!
Low and behold, as it is also as old as dirt, it had pages of info on cooking natural foods and a lot of info on poultry.

I chose the slow roast method; basted with (organic) butter, stuffed it loosely with (organic) apples, oranges and a big lemon off of the tree out front, found a meat thermometer we inherited with this house, and went to it. The result was the juiciest, most tender and delicious bird I’ve ever prepared.

It occurs to me that this may be a great way to prepare a cage free, hormone free, free range Iguana.
I’ve had lizard roasted over an open fire, lizard stew, and Lizard baked in a Clay shell. They tasted kinda like Perch crossed with chicken….except for the stew which had a whole Scotch Bonnet pepper in it and you couldn’t really taste anything else(Or anything else for the next two days). All in all, I prefer a good roasted snake over roasted lizard. Tastes like chicken without the fishy under theme.
If you can’t get the guys to try stuffing and roasting an Iguana (or snake) there in Grenada, try packing one in your suitcase and bringing it home and we’ll prepare it together. Live is probably best as it will have less chance of spoiling on the trip. Be sure to poke a few holes in the suitcase so it can breath… and perhaps throw in a few bugs so it doesn’t get hungry and eat your shorts or something. And make sure that the holes are really small so the bugs can’t escape.

Speaking of peppers, what kind do they have down there? If you can bring a few home, that would be cool. If not, maybe some local bottled hot sauce.

Well, that’s all for now. Keep up the communications. Keep your sense of humor, and go with God.

Can’t wait to see you for the Holidays. We’ll be having Christmas Eve dinner together before you guys head off to SLO on Christmas day. Of course, I’ll be making my famous, once a year, 5 Mushroom Soup for the first course. I think it will go well with stuffed Iguana.

    LoVe and Prayers,

    Unca Bert

  4. CALEB!!!!!!!
    Yaaaaaarrrrgggggg…..
So I realize it has been a long time but that just makes our interchanges all the more special. School is almost out for me up here and I will be going home soon. You are heading back to the states soon too right? Well, I look forward to spending some time with you. I have read a few of your blogs and you write very well. Also, your stories about your spiritual walk are awesome an inspiring. It seems that God is more present when times are hard or we are isolated from familiar things and people. Or maybe it is just that we are depending on him more and are listening more desparetly.

I miss you Caleb and hope you are doing well. Enjoy the last weeks you have, they are your act of serving and worshiping God and he is proud of you, his good and faithful son.

    Levi

  5. You spelled ‘where’ wrong! ;p I guess i’ll give you some slack just this once. Glad to hear that you are spending lots of time with God (even if you are having a hard time sleeping!)
